About me:
I was lucky to grow up in a place and time in which music was an integral element of the public school curriculum. In my elementary school classroom, I learned to read music and to play the recorder; in junior high school I had music history, jazz band and choral singing. The high school concert choir rehearsed every day, during the school day! EVERY student had a chance to experience the pleasure and learn the fundamentals of music-making.
After earning a BFA at Newcomb College/Tulane University, I performed in Bay Area theatre and choral groups, while starting a family. I began teaching as a member of a parent-run cooperative nursery school, later completing Orff Schulwerk certification at Mills College, an Adult Education credential in Creative and Performing Arts at San Jose State University, and certification in Sound/Voice & Music Healing at the California Institue of Integral Studies. Most recently, I earned an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Music Therapy from Lesley University and was accredited by the Certification Board for Music Therapy (MT-BC #13419). I provide in-home pediatric palliative care Music Therapy sessions in Alameda County through Hospice By The Bay.
Though I continue to broaden my understanding and expertise through practice and study, the most significant qualification I bring to this work remains my passion for sharing the joy and healing of community music-making.
